Hannah + Joan | Boranup + Backyard Wedding

Hannah + Joan | Boranup Wedding + Backyard Reception

Backyard weddings are cool. And when your parents actually built the whole house themselves, that’s another level of awesome.

Hannah + Joan’s laidback forest wedding had a lot of DIY vibes. Family helped them construct their arbour, and they were stripping bark off the tree trunks in the days leading up to their wedding.

Biodegradable confetti was made from hole-punching a heap of leaves. Joan’s bro set-up an awesome bar in the forest for their ceremony – Hannah + Joan live in Broome and originally planned to get married there, so of course they had a heap of Matso’s ginger beer, perfect on a hot summer afternoon.

Hannah and Joan arrived in their Hilux ute together, a sister and cousin sung a song as they signed their marriage certificate, and everyone was pitching in behind the scenes to make the party extra awesome.

And when Joan swallowed a fly midway through the ceremony – it was good thing everyone had drinks in their hand and someone could hand her a champagne!

Hannah’s dad worked in Boranup Forest for years, and one of his ranger mates rocked up at the end of the ceremony to check on proceedings and and say hi.

Best of all, it was just a lovely, happy and fuss free wedding. I know a ton of work went into everything behind the scenes, and it was so great watching everyone hang out, celebrate and head back to a family home for a big party after the ceremony – I love weddings like these.

Hannah + Joan’s wedding was also featured on the Dancing with Her website.
